President's Message

Norimasa Kanayama
President of Naragakuen University

Naragakuen University was founded in April 2014 under the ideal of returning to humanistic values in higher education. We inaugurated the Department of Education for Human Growth within the Faculty of Education for Human Growth and the Department of Nursing within the Faculty of Health Sciences with the aim of nurturing individuals capable of broad perspectives and active engagement both locally and globally. In 2018, we established the Master Course of Nursing within the Graduate School of Nursing, and in 2019, we introduced the Department of Rehabilitation within the Faculty of Health Sciences. By September 2022, we received approval to establish the Master Course of Rehabilitation Science within the Graduate School of Rehabilitation Science, expanding our graduate offerings to commence in the spring of 2023.

Initially, the Faculty of Education for Human Growth operated from the Misato Campus and the Faculty of Health Sciences from the Tomigaoka Campus, each fostering vibrant educational activities. In April 2022, the Faculty of Education for Human Growth relocated to the Tomigaoka Campus, consolidating our facilities. This move enhanced our learning environment, featuring spaces designed to stimulate students' motivation and state-of-the-art facilities such as ICU simulation rooms and 3D motion analysis devices. Our campus has thus become an even more attractive place for students aspiring to excel in education and healthcare.

Our founding spirit is dedicated to "educating and developing capable individuals endowed with practical skills backed by advanced specialized academic knowledge, contributing to the development and advancement of both the local community and society at large." We aim to cultivate individuals equipped with "rich human qualities" and "profound humanity," capable of actively participating in and navigating society. Our goal is to nurture individuals who can self-regulate, cooperate with others, empathize, and be moved by the surrounding world

To align with this purpose, we emphasize the following four educational structures:
  1. A systematic curriculum supported by a responsible teaching structure.
  2. An educational system led by academically excellent faculty with rich practical experience.
  3. An individual advisory and guidance system based on a class teacher system, enhanced by close cooperation with guarantors to improve student satisfaction.
  4. A student support system aimed at responsibly integrating each individual into society with an eye toward their career development.

These structures are synergistically linked under our philosophy of "acquiring strong practical ability enriched by comprehensive basic knowledge that can adapt to the progress of the times, keeping a close eye on reality."

We are committed to educating and researching daily to develop specialists who act for and contribute to people, supporting humanity at its core.

I hope many of you will join us as Naragakuen University continues to strive forward into a promising future.
